zjones1The Fifth Grade D.A.R.E. graduation will be held at the Louisville Elementary School Auditorium on Friday, April 19, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. Students from Louisville Elementary, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, and Winston Academy will be participating.
The curriculum was new this year. D.A.R.E. America wanted to revamp and focus on young people making safe and responsible decisions. The curriculum "keepin' it REAL" guides students on how to deal with stressful situations, risk and consequences, peer pressure, basics of communication, nonverbal communication and listening, bullying, helping others, getting help from others, D.A.R.E. decision making model, and drug information for responsible decision making
.
The students have to write an essay and participate in all levels of the curriculum. D.A.R.E.'s "keepin' it REAL" curriculum also meets and adheres to the new common core standards that all public schools will eventually be required to follow.
